Persbericht World Driver Championship 2025 Nieuw Zeeland
This is a proud moment for New Zealand harness racing a milestone that speaks to how far we’ve come, and where we’re headed.
For the first time in history, New Zealand will be the sole host of the World Driving Championship. The spotlight is fully on New Zealand, our people, our venues, our passion.
We’re welcoming 10 of the very best drivers in the world, from 10 different countries. Champions in their own right. It’s the harness racing equivalent of the World Cup and it’s coming to our backyard.
The championship will take place across four iconic venues: Kaikoura, Cambridge, Winton, and Addington — starting on November 2nd and finishing on Cup Day, one of the most treasured days on our sporting calendar.
New Zealand has a proud history in this event. We’ve won it six times, thanks to names like Tony Herlihy, Maurice McKendry, Dexter Dunn, Mark Jones, Robert Cameron, and Kevin Holmes.
And now, we have the chance to create new memories new heroes right here in Aotearoa.
But what makes this championship truly special isn’t just the competition.
It’s our people.
Harness racing runs deep in New Zealand. It’s at the heart of small towns, of families, of communities who’ve spent generations breeding, training, and following these horses.
When big moments like this come around, our fans turn up in force. They bring energy. They bring passion. And they remind us that this sport is bigger than the race itself.
This is our chance to show the world who we are to showcase not only our talent and our tracks, but the spirit and soul of New Zealand harness racing.
So come November, we’ll be ready. The gates will open, the crowd will rise, and we’ll watch our very best take on the world.
And no matter who takes home the title this championship will be a celebration of everything we love about this sport.

Brad Steele
